Many people think that Socialism would be wonderful. The problem is that Socialism rarely achieves
its goals. Here are some questions and answers to help you understand this:
-
What is Socialism really?
Government owns everything and everyone is paid equally.
-
Why do people like the idea of Socialism so much?
They think they will gain the following advantages:
- Everyone will be equal.
- People won't have to work as much.
- Government will pay for almost everything.
- Government-run factories are more efficient.
- Government will divide everything equally.
- No more rich people.
- No more poor people.
- Government can create any wealth needed.
-
Why can't Socialism do these things?
The economy does not work the way they think it will:
- Everyone except the leaders will be equal.
- People would have to work more because the incentive to work is gone.
- Government can't pay for even a tenth of everything. It must tax any wealth it gets
from the people.
- Government-run factories make shoddy products because there is no incentive to work.
- Government could take away what you have to give it to someone else.
- Government is already richer than any person, and would become richer.
- Everyone will be equally poor.
- Government has no power to create wealth. Only work can do that.
-
Why can't government spend as much as it wants to?
The economy does not work the way they think it does:
- How much money a government can spend depends on how much wealth is in the economy.
- Government has no power to create any wealth. Only work can create wealth.
- If government spends more than total wealth, inflation keeps wealth constant.
- A Democrat "super utopia" fails because government can't create wealth.
-
Why can't government create wealth?
Wealth is created when useful products are made for sale on the open market.
- When workers work to produce useful products, they create wealth.
- When the employer sells the product, the money paid for it is used to pay the workers.
- People in government do no work to produce useful products, so they create no wealth.
- Without work, there are no products.
- When farmers, cattlemen, and fishers work to produce food, they create wealth.
- Without work, no food is produced.
- Without work, nobody eats.
- Drug companies with patent monopolies can charge exorbitant amounts for necessary
drugs.
-
Why can't we have a world without work?
Work is necessary to create wealth, products, and food.
- When workers work to produce useful products, they create wealth.
- When the employer sells the product, the money paid for it is used to pay the workers.
- Without work, there are no products.
- When farmers, cattlemen, and fishers work to produce food, they create wealth.
- Without work, no food is produced.
- Without work, nobody eats.
- The Christian Bible tells us "By the sweat of your brow will you eat your
food."
- Man was given a world with very little work. He threw it away by disobeying God.
- The Christian Bible tells us that in this world "Those who won't work shall not
eat."
-
What happened to the Greek utopias? The Greeks didn't have to work.
The Greek utopia was run on slave labor. The slaves did the work.
- The slaves did the work so the elite did not have to work.
- The elite were freed from work to study the arts and sciences.
- Remember that without work, no food is produced.
-
What happened to all of the Socialist countries of the world?
Most of these countries languished until the Socialism was removed.
- People in most Socialist countries get only a subsistence wage. Only government officials
are paid well.
- The socialism lasts only as long as the power of government can suppress making income
through non-Socialist activities.
- As soon as the people overthrew the Socialist governments, the Socialism was gone.
- Socialist products are shoddy because there is no incentive to do a good job.
- Because the products are shoddy, less wealth is produced.
- Remember that without work, no wealth is produced.
- Remember that without work, no food is produced.
-
Is there any way we can have a world without work?
Some governments and company pension programs provide workless retirement.
Some religions provide a workless or reduced-work afterlife.
- US Workers pay Social Security all their working lives to not have to work in
retirement.
- Some other countries have programs similar to Social Security.
- Many employers have privately funded pension programs.
- Labor is not required in the Christian afterlife. There is some spiritual work.
