GOODBYE MICROSOFT FOREVER
Microsoft has ruined computing for me forever.
I used to enjoy computing. Now it has become a pain. Microsoft has done everything to make more money at the expense of users.
How Microsoft ruined computing - THEY WOULD NOT LEAVE THINGS ALONE!!!!
- Microsoft changed us from MS-DOS to Windows. MS-DOS stayed nearly the same for over 15 years.
- They effectively took away user-written programming.
- Microsoft changed Windows and Office every few years.
- Made people (especially the computer illiterate) learn entirely new systems and programs every few years.
- Made the software we paid for and needed stop working with every new operating system.
- Microsoft blamed hackers and viruses for forcing all of these changes on us. Microsoft income was the real reason.
- Made our old files unreadable by keeping old software from working with newer operating systems.
- Made our existing peripheral devices no longer work by not accepting old drivers.
- Made windows vulnerable by allowing ads, notifications, updates, and other items coming in from the internet to enter our computers.
- Promised that Windows 10 would be the last version of Windows ... and then broke that promise.
- Changed the useful RGB/CMY image programs to use the obsolete artist primaries instead.
- Turned our old computers that still worked into solid waste by making the new operating system not work on them.
- Strict copy protection that keeps us from using software after the original computer failed.
- It cost the US federal government a lot of tax money when Microsoft ended the life of Windows XP.
- Government had a lot of specialized software that could not run under newer versions of Windows. It all had to be written again.
- Government should have passed a law requiring backward compatibility between new operating systems and old programs.
- NASA discovered that all of the microprocessors and software the Space Shuttle standardized on were discontinued.
- Microsoft and Intel urged NASA to upgrade all the hardware and software to the latest versions,
- NASA refused to upgrade because the reliability of the new hardware and software was not proved.
- NASA bought up all existing supplies of the hardware and all copies of the software.
- Many expensive laboratory instruments became useless when Microsoft switched to Windows 95 and Intel changed the bus structure.
- The Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) was no longer standard.
- IT people in many organizations wanted all computers in the organization to be the same.
- The equipment controller boards did not fit the new computers.
- Equipment designed to last 30 years quit after 10 years because no new computers could operate it.
- It takes instrument companies several years to develop new hardware. This left a gap that wide without any equipment that worked.
- The old interface method did not work because Windows divides computer time into slices. Old methods needed constant access.
- Millions of dollars' worth of equipment became solid waste. Hundreds of laboratories shut down because no equipment worked.
- Microsoft often took over computers (once in a 3-hour college exam) for "urgent updates" with no warning and no time to save files.
- Windows Updates prevented disconnecting classrooms from the Internet. Programs unable to check for updates repeatedly interrupted work.
- Long-term scientific studies can't be done because changing to other computers or software violates Ceteris Paribus continuity rules.
- Businesses that have been required to bring business records to court often brought in media and files today's equipment can't read.
- Operating systems that are virus-proof could be made, but Microsoft opted to allow advertising and upgrades to enter computers instead.
- Microsoft no longer supplies installation disks. You have to download it from them.
- Microsoft now wants to rent software to people instead of allowing them to buy it. Greedy!
- Microsoft's greedy end of life STEALS other software the computer owner bought for the computer if the software won't run on the new OS.
The page author has had to write the same program 7 times because computers that ran the old versions were gone.
The page author lost an entire music studio because none of the software could run on a newer computer and most of the files were proprietary.
I HAVE HAD IT! I AM SWITCHING TO LINUX!
