TOP TEN GOVERNMENT SCHEMES THAT WON'T WORK

Government is not infallible. In fact, it is more fallible than almost anything else.

Here are the top ten government schemes that can't possibly work:

  1. The use of Keynesian Economics as a model of the real economy.
  2. Government attempts to create jobs.
  3. Government attempts to spend the economy into prosperity.
  4. Government attempts to redistribute income.
  5. Identifying people and things with identification numbers.
  6. Believing that only government can solve difficult problems.
  7. National Health Care.
  8. The Living Wage.
  9. Social Security.
  10. Hydrogen power.

Explanation of each scheme:

  1. The use of Keynesian Economics as a model of the real economy.

Keynesian Economics is the model of the economy used by liberals. It's not an accurate model of the economy, because it fails to recognize that the only major source of wealth is work. Thus, it makes such erroneous predictions as increasing government spending to improve the economy, Government being able to create jobs, government spending so people won't have to work, wage and price controls that actually work, government control over production with spending, and government eliminating poverty.

All of these things are desirable, explaining the liberal attraction to this model. But the predictions it makes do not work. This is because, when there is no work being done, no wealth is created.

  2. Government attempts to create jobs.

Government can definitely spend money to cause jobs to appear. But the taxation necessary to spend that money destroys more jobs than the spent money creates. This is not noticed because there is a delay before the job loss occurs. So the attempt causes a net loss of jobs.

  3. Government attempts to spend the economy into prosperity.

Government can definitely spend money to cause business activity to increase. But the increase lasts only a short time, before the taxation or borrowing needed to spend the money causes it to decrease again. The experience during the late 1970s shows that such attempts lead to stagflation - a period of simultaneous high inflation and high unemployment.

  4. Government attempts to redistribute income

The problem with government attempts to redistribute income is that there are people who do not want to work. Giving money to those people does not make them wealthy. Instead, it destroys the wealth that was given to them. So government can not create the utopia of equality the liberals believe in.

  5. Identifying people and things with identification numbers.

Government has this insane drive to put identifying numbers on everything. These numbers cause many more problems than they solve. ID numbers required by government have led to the epidemic of identity theft. ID numbers cause trouble, because they are too easy to steal, copy, or fake. They are against some religions. The ID numbers are not necessary, because they have only the purpose of making the jobs of government employees and programmers easier. So they should be abolished permanently.

  6. Believing that only government can solve difficult problems.

Government does not have the expertise or the penalty of bankruptcy if it fails. This means that government employees have no incentive to do a good job. Therefore, government does not have the efficiency that private industry has. Also, elected officials consider themselves to be competent to do jobs that should be done by trained experts. Government putting itself first also hurts everyone else, so it is clear why government is so incompetent. Don't trust government to do anything right, because it can't.

  7. National Health Care.

Because health insurance is the cause of the high health care prices, universal national health insurance will cause a huge increase in health care costs. The taxes necessary to support this would tax people more than 100%. The correct solution is to abolish health insurance for all cases of routine care. Only insurance for catastrophic expenses should be allowed. In addition, doctor cartels should be abolished.

  8. The Living Wage.

The main thing that dooms living wage legislation is the fact that neither the business nor government has the wealth to pay such a wage. This is because the government takes the money away in taxes, for use in a safety net, for Social Security, and for health care. These things can not coexist with a living wage. The only way for employees to be paid wages they can live on is to cut taxes until nobody is taxed more than 10%.

  9. Social Security.

Social Security is identical to a Ponzi pyramid scheme. It stays solvent only because the new money coming in from young workers slightly exceeds the money paid out in benefits. The only solution to saving social security is to create private interest-bearing accounts for each person. This also keeps greedy politicians from raiding the funds for their illicit spending.

  10. Hydrogen power.

The big problem with hydrogen power is that hydrogen is not an energy source. It is an energy transfer system that has a loss of from 40% to 80% of the original energy source used to make the hydrogen. So it would be much more efficient to use the original energy source, without converting it to hydrogen.

The bare truth is that government can't do good when it tries to do good. It usually causes harm instead.

Stop asking for more from government. You will regret getting what you asked for.
